Ironic Truth

November to March is the operating sweet spot — the desert, mosque visits and Yas Island all work in winter.

Indian demand peaks twice: Dec–Jan winter break and around the F1 Grand Prix in early December; the summer collapses under 42°C heat.

Culture

United Arab Emirates Etiquette

Do
Dress modestly in public — shoulders and knees covered. At Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque women must wear an abaya with headscarf (free at the entrance) and men long trousers.
Greet with 'As-salamu alaykum' (peace be upon you); reply 'Wa alaykumu s-salam'. Use the right hand for greetings, gifts and eating.
Ask permission before photographing Emiratis, especially women and at mosques during prayer.
During Ramadan (17 Feb – 19 Mar 2026), do not eat, drink or smoke in public between dawn and sunset — even tourists. Hotel restaurants serve behind screens.
Remove shoes before entering a mosque or an Emirati home; accept Arabic coffee (gahwa) and dates when offered.
Don't
Do not display public affection beyond hand-holding — kissing and hugging in public can lead to fines or detention.
Do not drink alcohol outside licensed hotels, restaurants and clubs; never drink and drive (zero tolerance, immediate jail).
Do not photograph government buildings, military sites, palaces or the Presidential complex.
Do not use profanity or rude gestures — middle finger and even 'cuss' words can result in fines under cybercrime law if posted online.
Do not turn the sole of your foot toward anyone or point with a single finger.

Qasr Al Hosn — Abu Dhabi's oldest stone building

The 1795 watchtower that grew into the seat of the Al Nahyan rulers — restored in 2018 and almost empty on weekday mornings.
Originally a coral-and-sea-stone watchtower built to protect the only freshwater well on the island, Qasr Al Hosn was expanded into the royal palace and is now a museum tracing Abu Dhabi's transformation from fishing settlement to capital.

Souk Al Mina fish market & dhow harbour at dawn

The working fishing port behind the glass towers — hammour, kingfish and sheri auctioned at 5 AM.
Mina Zayed's traditional Iranian Souk and fish market sit on the old dhow harbour. Wholesale auctions wrap by 06:30; retail counters and karak-tea stalls run until 10:00. Adjacent date and carpet markets are quiet but stocked.
Locals Say
Arrive 05:30 for the auction theatre; tip a Filipino auctioneer AED 20 to translate. Walk the dhow jetty next door for the working wooden cargo boats still trading with Iran.
