Ironic Truth

March through July is Da Nang's prime window — clear beaches, comfortable mornings, and reliable Hoi An / Hue extensions.

Apr 30 / May 1 is a domestic surge; Sep–Nov typhoons can derail Hue and Bana Hills extensions.

Mar – Aug
Beach season + domestic Vietnamese summer holidays (Jun 1 – Aug 15); hotels at My Khe sell out 30+ days ahead.

Jan · Feb · Sep · Dec
Cooler beach temps but mostly dry. Better pricing for first-time families.
Off-Peak
Oct · Nov
Typhoon risk; Bana Hills cable cars suspend in high wind. Cheaper but plan rain-day Hoi An workshops.
Actually. Sell Da Nang as a hub-and-spoke base — 3 nights in Da Nang covers beach + city, then a 2-night Hoi An add-on. Avoid Oct–Nov for honeymooners.

Vietnam Etiquette

Do
Remove shoes and cover shoulders/knees at the Marble Mountains pagodas and Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra peninsula.
Be quiet and stand back during fishermen's pre-dawn auctions at My Khe and Non Nuoc beaches — it's working hours, not theatre.
Greet shopkeepers in Han Market with 'Xin chào' — central Vietnamese accents are softer than Hanoi or Saigon.
Stand on the Dragon Bridge east-side viewing platform Saturdays/Sundays at 21:00 for the fire-and-water show.
Try mì Quảng — Da Nang's signature turmeric noodle dish; the best is at Mì Quảng 1A on Hải Phòng street.
Don't
Do not climb on or touch the marble carvings at the Cham Museum or Marble Mountains — many are 9th–10th century originals.
Do not swim past the red flags at My Khe — undertows are dangerous September through January.
Do not photograph Vietnamese soldiers at the Son Tra peninsula military zones.
Do not buy live monkeys, langurs, or exotic wildlife at roadside stalls — Son Tra's red-shanked douc langurs are critically endangered.
Do not haggle in restaurants or coffee shops — only at Han Market clothing/souvenir stalls.

Son Tra peninsula viewpoint (Vọng Cảnh)

A 696m forested headland with red-shanked douc langurs and Vietnam's largest standing Buddha.
Son Tra ('Monkey Mountain') protected forest holds about 350 critically endangered douc langurs visible in the trees along the loop road. Linh Ung Pagoda's 67m white Lady Buddha overlooks the bay.
Locals Say
Rent a scooter at 08:00 (300,000 VND/day) and ride the 30 km loop counter-clockwise. The Bãi Bụt viewpoint is the langur-spotting hot zone. Avoid weekends — the road backs up with tour buses.

Asia Park (Sun World Da Nang Wonders) Sun Wheel

A 115m Ferris wheel — one of the world's ten tallest — that gives the city's best skyline frame.
The Sun Wheel sits on the west bank of the Han River and rotates over a small Asia-themed park. Cabins are air-conditioned and one full rotation is 15 minutes.
Locals Say
Buy the night-only ticket (250,000 VND) for 19:00–22:00 access — covers the Dragon Bridge fire show below and the river skyline lights. Day visits are a waste.

Locals Say
Open 06:00–11:00 only; cash only, 35,000 VND a bowl. Add extra chả lụa (pork sausage) and the chilli paste from the table jar.

Hai Van Pass viewpoint (Top Gear corner)

The 21 km cliff road Top Gear called 'one of the best in the world' in the 2008 Vietnam special.
The pass separates Da Nang from Hue at 496m elevation. Since the tunnel opened in 2005, traffic has dropped 90% — making it a near-empty motorcycle ride past wartime gun emplacements.
Locals Say
Ride south-to-north (Da Nang → Lang Co) in the morning for sun-at-your-back photos. The Hai Van Quan gate at the summit is a free open-air WWII–Vietnam War fortress. 90 min one-way by car.
30 km north-west of Da Nang away
Best: 06:00–10:00 (clear of morning fog)
