Ironic Truth

Apr–Oct dry season is the easy operating window; Jul–Aug and Dec are peak with Australian and Indian inbound.

Kuta tracks general Bali pattern but the spike is sharper — proximity to DPS makes it the default first-stop and last-stop for short trips.

Indonesia Etiquette

Do
Sign up for a Kuta surf school (Pro Surf, Rip Curl) — 2hr group lesson IDR 350,000–450,000 — the beach break is the world's best learner wave.
Use the marked Bemo Corner area as your meeting point — Kuta street numbering is illegible and the corner is the universal landmark.
Cross Jl. Pantai Kuta on the marked overpasses — at rush hour traffic does not stop for pedestrians.
Eat at the Made's Warung original (since 1969) for Nasi Campur — open since the pre-Bali-boom days.
Don't
Do not buy 'arak' (rice spirit) from beach vendors — methanol poisoning incidents and tourist deaths every year. Stick to licensed bars.
Do not pay for a 'beach massage' upfront — pay per hour at the end; the IDR 50,000 quote becomes IDR 200,000 mid-session.
Do not engage the 'transport, transport?' touts on Jl. Legian — use Grab/Gojek from inside a cafe instead.

Pantai Berawa fishermen sunset

A 15-minute drive north reveals the working-fishermen end of the Kuta beach strand — boats return at sunset.
Local jukung fishermen launch at 05:00 and return at 17:30. Untouched by the surf-school commercialisation that hit Kuta proper. Tip the captains for sunrise sail offers.
Locals Say
Reach via Jl. Pantai Berawa; almost no tour buses. Combine with a sundowner at Finns Beach Club (15-min walk).
North · 8 km from Kuta centre away
Best: Sunset 17:30
