Actually. Kaziranga's one-horned rhinos don't check the calendar, but the park gates close from May to October. Plan accordingly.

Guwahati Etiquette
Do
Remove shoes and any leather items before entering Kamakhya Temple — the queue can be 2-3 hours during peak season
Accept tamul-paan (betel nut and leaf) if offered by an Assamese host — it is a traditional gesture of welcome
Try authentic Assamese thali with khar, masor tenga (sour fish curry), and pitha at local bhojanalays
Respect the Brahmaputra — do not waste food or throw litter near the ghats; the river is deeply revered
Visit Fancy Bazaar and Pan Bazaar for authentic Assamese mekhela chador silk and Assam tea
Don't
Do not wear revealing clothing at Kamakhya Temple — dress codes are strict, especially for the inner sanctum
Do not make insensitive remarks about 'Northeast being different from India' — it is a common and hurtful stereotype
Do not refuse food offered at a traditional Assamese household — even a small taste is polite
Do not photograph tribal communities without explicit permission, especially during Bihu celebrations
Do not consume beef openly in areas near temples — Guwahati has mixed dietary norms but sensitivity helps

“A Ramsar wetland hiding in plain sight at the city's edge”
This freshwater lake on Guwahati's southwestern fringe is a Ramsar-designated wetland that hosts over 200 bird species including the rare greater adjutant stork. At dawn, the mirror-still water reflects Rani Hills while fishermen in tiny boats cast nets exactly as they have for centuries. Most Guwahati tourists never hear of it.
Locals Say
“Go at 5:30 AM with binoculars — the bird activity peaks at first light. Hire a local fisherman's boat (₹300-500) from the south bank for a closer look at the heron colonies”
